The Paterson School District is in the throes of a massive turnover problem.

Over 1,300 teachers have left the district in the last three years, which equals an average of over 430 teachers—or roughly 20 percent—each year.
In the 2021-22 school year, the numbers dramatically increased. Nearly 700 teachers and other school employees left the district.
It’s no coincidence that the number of resignations correlated with a return to full, in-person instruction, as ongoing poor working conditions continue to go unaddressed.
There are currently over 100 unfilled positions as the school year gets under way.
