I want to alert you about an important grievance settlement that was reached between the Union and the District. As you may recall, in November 2018, we had a freak snowstorm resulting in an early dismissal for students. According to District policy, under those circumstances, staff are only required to remain 20 minutes after the students were dismissed. In many cases, that did not occur. In fact, some schools required their staff to remain as late as 2:00 PM.
At a recent arbitration hearing, the District agreed with the Union’s position. To compensate employees for the grievance, the District has agreed to release ALL employees 45 minutes early on June 27, 2019, (as an aside.. for high school employees, you will be released 45 minutes earlier based on the mode you work). Again, this is for ALL P.E.A. members.
I want to personally thank, and recognize P.E.A. 1st Vice President Charles Ferrer along with our entire grievance committee for working diligently on behalf of all members. Their hard work and dedication played a major role in this settlement. P.E.A could not have done this without their tireless advocacy!
On a side note, for all of those “potential members” that have chosen NOT to join the Union as a full dues-paying member for one reason or another, you’re welcome.
