SP.E.A.KING Out Plans for New Season

P.E.A. is one of the very few local associations in New Jersey to produce its own cable access television program SP.E.A.KING Out. SP.E.A.KING Out is a public affairs interview program focusing on Paterson, the Paterson Public Schools and its staff. The show is hosted by P.E.A. President Pete Tirri and is run by Paterson's staff both current and retired, and can be seen on Paterson Cablevision channel 75 on Wednesday at 7:30 PM. The Association's Cable Access Committee, co-chaired by Barbara Bourque (JFK) and Linda Di Muro (MLK) produces the television program.

The 2006-2007 season of SP.E.A.KING Out saw P.E.A. introducing the Paterson community to the groundbreaking for the new International High School, the holiday program at Rosa Parks High School, and the massive NJEA rally in Trenton. Pete interviewed Mayor Jose Torres, Assemblywoman Nellie Pou, Mike Flynn from the NJEA, Paterson Recreation Director Benjie Wimberly, and Dr Anna De Molli and Nancy Holtje from the Office of Early Childhood.

Currently, we are renovating the P.E.A. studio, and our new shows are waiting on the studio's completion. Upcoming plans include interviews with Stan Karp from the Educational Law Center and a former teacher at JFK high school, and return visits by Mayor Torres and Assemblywoman Pou.

SP.E.A.KING Out is also planning training sessions for prospective crew members. If you have an interest or experience in video production and would like to join our crew, please call the P.E.A. office and leave a message.

SP.E.A.KING Out is always looking for staff members with a particular talent or accomplishment they would like to share. It would be especially nice to share in school accomplishments that tend to go unnoticed and are under-appreciated. If you or someone you know has something to share, don't hesitate to contact us. You can reach us by calling Barbara Bourque at JFK, Linda DiMuro at MLK or leave a message for SP.E.A.KING Out at the P.E.A. office.

Never seen SP.E.A.KING Out? Give it a try. If you don't live in Paterson, ask someone who does, to tape it for you. We think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
