Kudos to....

Charles J. Riley/School #9

For the fourth consecutive year, CJR/#9 has been named a New Jersey "Just 4 the Kids" Benchmark School. Schools are recognized for this achievement for consistently maintaining high scores in the NJ ASK and GEPA tests. The staff and administration of the school work very hard to achieve and maintain this honor, which they proudly share with the students and parents of the CJR/#9 community.

The National Center for Educational Accountability, a non-profit organization based at the University of Texas, in conjunction with the Business Coalition for Educational Excellence, a group of educators, business leaders and policy makers working with the Chamber of Commerce and the Department of Education, introduced "Just 4 The Kids" in New Jersey several years ago.

The program compiles scores from every district in each member state on standardized tests in language arts, math and science for 3rd, 4th-8th and 11th graders at schools statewide. The schools are then sorted according to student demographics to identify the benchmark schools. These schools serve as models for schools with similar populations.

At the outset of the program former Commissioner of Education William Librera stated "In every district there are high-performing classrooms, high performing schools." CJR/#9 is yet another example of the great work done in Paterson.

CONGRATULATIONS TO CJR/# 9

Dorothy Bozzone, Kennedy H.S.

Dorothy Bozzone, of John F. Kennedy High School, has been inducted into National Honor Roll's Outstanding American Teachers. The organization was established to provide positive recognition to educators who have been identified by their students as having had the greatest influence on their lives, either as a student or as an individual. Bozzone has been a member of the JFK faculty for almost 25 years.

Bozzone's participation in the STEM Academy has been noteworthy. In addition, during summers, she has been an active part of ROOTS at Ramapo College assisting new students as they transition into high school.

"The National Honor Roll firmly believes that the future is in the hands of our children and that teachers who help their students reach their full potential make the greatest contribution to society," stated Lynn Romero of the NHR in announcing the award.
