Up coming workshops include:

February 15th-Math Workshop

March 8th-Grant Writing

April 5th- Maternity Rights

April 19th-Pension Benefits

May 3rd-Professional Improvement Plans

Suggestions for next year's workshops? Please submit them to the Program Committee at the P.E.A. office, or via email at PatEdAssn@aol.com.

If you missed the first one ----- you won't want to miss the second one!

The Membership Committee will be holding it's second New Staff Orientation on January 27th at the Brownstone House from 3:30-5:30.

The NSO is open to any staff member who was hired after September 30th or missed the first session that was held on September 21st.

There will speakers providing information about disability insurance and various tax annuities options available to staff. In addition, presentations will include basic information about our Association and the other organizations with which we are affiliated. AND, it is a great time to meet and greet your officers and NJEA UniServ Representatives while sitting back and relaxing with you colleagues.

Flyers will be distributed shortly as a reminder. If you are interested in attending, please call the P.E.A. office by January 20th. It is important that you are RSVP so that we may provide the Brownstone House with a correct count..

Speaking of membership ... NOW's the time to join!

Are you a member of the P.E.A.? Just to be sure, look at the DEDUCTIONS portion of your December 23 pay stub. Under DESCRIPTION you will see a line for PEA .. Education Association. See it? Now look in the CURRENT column. If there is a dollar amount listed, YOU'RE A MEMBER OF P.E.A.!! Congratulations, and Thank You.

Now, if there is no figure listed, or there is no line for P.E.A., you're NOT a member.

Staff who are not members of the P.E.A. will be receiving information from NJEA about Representation Fees that will be deducted from their paychecks beginning in February through the last check in June. Some staff see this deduction and believe that they are members of the P.E.A., but they're not! New Jersey law requires that the bargaining agent (P.E.A.) represent you for bargaining, grievances, etc. As a result, while you have to right to either join, or refrain from joining, a representation fee is deducted from your checks beginning in February. BUT WHY WOULD YOU NOT WANT TO JOIN THE 3,800 MEMBERS OF THE P.E.A.????

To become a member of the Paterson Education Association a membership application form must be completed and sent to our office for processing. If you are not a member and wish to join please contact our office and request a membership form. We'll be more than happy to send one to you in that day's mail.

Charlotte Sanderson (#26) , Membership Chairperson is reports she is pleased with the number of schools achieving 100 % membership status at this time. Hopefully we will have a completed list to send out acknowledging those sites that have accomplished this great goal.

A special thank you goes out to the delegates for a job well done!!!!
