Retirement Requires More Than You Think

You should examine your expenses closely. Many of my clients believe their expenses decrease when they retire ... not always the case!

If you're in good health and lead an active life, you'll probably travel, dine out and engage in more leisurely activities. Also, let's not forget property taxes. Even though some of you may own your own home outright, the burdens of property taxes never go away -- they increase.

Lifestyles change -- but savings are a must if you plan to maintain your current lifestyle in retirement. I am constantly telling my clients to contribute as much as possible to their tax deferred savings plan. They can always reduce the dollar amount if it becomes too difficult.

Last but not least, do not depend on social security. start saving today -- it's never too late!

Variable Annuities:

A variable annuity is a type of investment designed to encourage long-term investing for retirement. As a "tax-deferred" investment, a variable annuity offers the opportunity for your money to grow faster because you don't pay taxes on earnings until they are actually withdrawn. (Withdrawals of taxable amounts are subject to income tax and, if taken prior to age 59½ , may incur a 10% federal tax penalty.)

A variable annuity can add power to the long-term growth potential of the markets. That's because variable annuities offer a unique combination of tax-deferred market growth potential and protection features that no other investment can!
